Part of our consultancy services at Domatic Access is our accessibility audits. We understand that true accessibility means more than just ticking compliance boxes. That’s why we go beyond the minimum legislated requirements to evaluate how usable and inclusive your space is for people of all abilities.
Accessibility audits, or access appraisals, are detailed inspections of your premises carried out by a qualified accessibility auditor. It’s designed to assess compliance with relevant legislation including the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA), the Access to Premises Standards 2010, and the National Construction Code (NCC).
But compliance is only the beginning. A well-executed audit goes beyond the tick-box approach by evaluating how your space actually performs in everyday situations. It considers how people interact with the environment during typical operations—whether that’s customers navigating a retail store, patients accessing healthcare services, or staff moving through a workplace.
The building’s intended purpose plays a crucial role, as different facilities have different user needs and expectations. A school, for example, may require safe, accessible pathways for children and carers, while a commercial office might need barrier-free meeting rooms and lift access across multiple levels.
In addition to daily use, our audits also examine how well your space supports ongoing accessibility through maintenance and management. Are accessibility features like ramps, tactile indicators, or hearing augmentation systems regularly checked and maintained? Is staff trained in inclusive practices?
We also assess emergency access and evacuation procedures, ensuring that everyone—including those with limited mobility or sensory impairments—can exit safely during critical situations. This real-world lens ensures that accessibility isn’t just built into your premises, but embedded into how it operates and evolves over time.
